Practicing mindfulness is a way of life that can bring both healing and balance to our daily interactions – both external and internal. Taking the time to recognize anxious feelings can seem scary, but understanding and honoring them can help guide you in your healing journey helping you develop greater awareness, self-empathy, resilience and strength. 


That is what this mindfulness-based healing practice is all about. Our vision for this work is simple: we believe that each of us can heal the world by first healing our own trauma and pain and that is what we set out to do. We believe it is possible to feel happier, healthier and more hopeful with mindfulness.


Post-traumatic stress can happen to anyone. Going through trauma is not rare, according to the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Approximately 60% of men and 50% of women will experience at least one trauma in their lifetime. 


One thing is abundantly clear, we need to find ways to better manage trauma when it happens to us and that is what the author set out to do.


Leslie Riopel believes that each of us can heal the world by healing our own trauma and pain. The Post-Traumatic Growth and Resilience Course was initially created as a tool for the author, a certified mindfulness and meditation teacher and psychology professor, to help her cope with severe anxiety and ongoing life challenges she was having trouble managing in a healthy way. 


Leslie Riopel, MA Psychology, and Charles Betterton, MSCED then decided to work together and further develop the course as a tool for coping with post-traumatic stress. The 21 essential exercises in this course offer practical guidance for anyone who wants to realize the benefits of mindfulness and meditation and as a tool to help those faced with severe anxiety or post-traumatic stress. 


Mindfulness is an evidence-based method for reducing stress, enhancing resilience, and maintaining mental well-being. Even a 5-minute mindfulness meditation can help you turn your day around shifting your focus from those things that aggravate and annoy you to those things that calm you and bring you a sense of peace. 


Each of the 21 mindfulness exercises in this course builds upon the last, with most practices only taking 5 minutes or so to do. As you progress through the course, the exercises grow with you, building on previous lessons to develop a transformative mindfulness practice. With practices designed for specific situations or emotions, even experienced practitioners will have a continuing resource for mindfulness at every moment.
